Fume cupboard tests

Overview

The primary reason for using a fume cupboard is to provide a safe working environment for the operator and other laboratory personnel. The fume cupboard provides mechanical means of capturing, diluting and exhausting all fumes – especially important if you are dealing with hazardous or noxious gases.

Testing and Standards

The efficiency and safety of a fume cupboard depends on a range of different factors, such as the smooth entry of air, the effective containment of fumes, construction material and the safe dispersal of fumes into the atmosphere. The testing of fume cupboards should be carried out by an independent qualified person (IQP) on a six monthly and annual basis. All tests should meet with the updated Standard AS/NZS 2243.8:2006.
